The Rise of Video Podcasts Is Reshaping the Industry
The report highlights that the rise of video podcasts has propelled podcast market value to new heights. In the United States, video podcasts now account for 30% of total podcast output. Globally, audiences spend 400 million hours per month watching video podcasts on TV, while YouTube attracts up to 1 billion podcast viewers -- compared to just 120 million monthly podcast listeners on Spotify.
Strong Performance in Taiwan's Market, with Rapid Growth Among Younger Demographics
In Taiwan, podcasting has become a mainstream activity. The largest listener demographic is the 35-44 age group, which is also the fastest growing, up 2.6% compared to six months prior. The 28-34 age group is the second largest, also showing growth though at a smaller rate (1.2%). Notably, female listeners outnumber male listeners across all age groups.
In terms of geographic distribution, the six major municipalities plus Hsinchu and Changhua account for nearly 95% of all listening in Taiwan, with Taipei alone making up nearly 70% (68%).
Firstory Continues to Lead as Ad Market Transaction Volume Doubles
As podcasting continues to permeate everyday life, more and more brands are choosing to advertise on podcasts. In the first half of 2025, Firstory's dynamic ad transaction volume grew over 3x since its initial launch, showing that brand investment continues to heat up and that the market is far larger than most expected.
The report shows that the top three industries for Firstory ad volume are: finance, food & beverage, and the public sector. In finance, advertisers include Union Bank and E.SUN Bank; in food & beverage, brands like Sushiro, Vedan, and Uber Eats; and in the public sector, entities such as the Taipei City Government and Hsinchu City Government. Regardless of the industry, everyone wants to experience the appeal of podcast advertising.
From One-Way Listening to Two-Way Interaction: Firstory Launches Comprehensive Membership Features
Research shows that today's podcast listeners are no longer satisfied with one-way content consumption -- they crave deeper interaction with creators. Successful podcasts have evolved from "producing content" to "building communities," offering listeners exclusive content and a sense of belonging.
In light of this, Firstory has been actively developing membership features to help creators deepen their connection with listeners. In addition to AI content extraction features already used regularly by over 1,000 creators, Firstory has launched the most comprehensive membership subscription system in Taiwan, enabling creators to offer exclusive content, build paid communities, and generate stable revenue streams.
Industry Outlook: The Shift from Listening to Interaction
The podcast industry is at a critical turning point. The rise of video podcasts is bringing more opportunities for creators, while AI technology is making membership content production more convenient. Firstory will continue to provide innovative tools to help creators succeed in this rapidly evolving market.
